General Information on TUBA Breast Augmentation

Transumbilical breast augmentation is a new approach for scarless enhancement of your breasts. Traditionally, breast implants have been inserted through incisions on the breasts, close by/around the nipple-areola complex, in the fold underneath the breast, or in the armpit. Now, with the use of endoscopic technology, breast implants can be inserted through the belly button, leaving no scars on the breast or the body. No one has to know that you have had augmentation but you.

Transumbilical breast augmentation (TUBA) or Endoscopic Breast Augmentation (EBAM) is a scarless breast enlargement procedure that was pioneered by Dr. Gerald Johnson in October of 1991. In addition to eliminating scars on or near the breasts, this method allows both breast implants to be placed through a single incision. Trained by Dr. Gerald Johnson, Dr. Agha has extensive experience with TUBA. About half of Dr. Agha’s patients are suitable candidates for the TUBA procedure and complete their breast augmentation through the umbilicus. This procedure can only be performed with the use of saline implants. However, the implants can be placed in a subglandular or submuscular plane. Typically, Southern California cosmetic surgeon Dr. Agha prefers submuscular placement of the saline implants to provide additional tissue over the implant.

Given the fact that the transumbilcial breast augmentation is a form of breast enhancement, we encourage you to visit our Breast Augmentation pages. You will learn about implant safety, different types of breast implants, submuscular versus subglandular implant placement, recovery after surgery, and potential complications of breast augmentation.
