Who can benefit from facelift surgery?
In time, gravity, sun exposure, and the stresses of daily life take their toll on our faces: deep creases appear beside the mouth, the jawline slackens, and folds and fat deposits appear on the neck. Anyone interested in looking younger and refreshed can benefit from a facelift. A facelift is the true expression of your surgeon’s artistic ability.
What are the intended results of facelift surgery with Newport Beach plastic surgeon Dr. Agha?
Facelift plastic surgery restores a smooth, youthful appearance to the face. It reduces facial lines and wrinkles, tightens sagging skin, and lifts areas of the face and neck that have lost their elasticity.
Does the facelift procedure require a hospital stay?
The facelift procedure is performed either on an outpatient basis at an ambulatory surgical care facility or in the hospital. Patients can typically go home the day of their surgery, but occasionally an overnight stay is recommended. We can recommend Newport Beach recovery facilities or home care if you would like additional private post-operative care in the days following surgery.
What type of anesthesia is used for facelift surgery?
Facelift plastic surgery may be performed under general anesthesia, which is given by an expert anesthesiologist. These services will be provided by the Southern California surgical facility where your surgery is performed, and the fee for this service will be billed separately.
How long does facelift plastic surgery take?
Orange County plastic surgeon Dr. Agha usually takes several hours, or as long as necessary, to complete a facelift.
What is involved in the facelift procedure?
Dr. Agha will usually perform a short scar mini-facelift for most patients, unless significant skin laxity exists. He prefers incisions that are well hidden, as can be seen in the below picture of a facelift patient at 6 months. The incision starts from the hairline, continues in a natural crease in front of the ear, inside the ear cartilage, and ends around the ear lobule behind the ear as needed. If a necklift is needed, a small incision may be made under the chin.
Newport Beach plastic surgeon Dr. Agha then elevates the facial skin from the underlying fat and muscle. The underlying muscle fascia is then tightened and the fat elevated to appropriately correct for the anatomical changes of the aged face. The excess skin is then excised. Dr. Agha adheres to the principles of creating a natural, younger, and fresher look.
Fat may be removed from around the neck and chin to improve the contour. Following facelift surgery, a small, thin tube may be temporarily placed under the skin behind your ear to drain any blood that might collect there.
Facelift surgery is often performed in conjunction with a brow lift to provide full facial rejuvenation. Eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) may also be performed at the same time as a facelift, especially if a patient has significant skin overhang in the upper eyelids.
What happens after my facelift surgery?

The incisions are covered with light dressings, and stitches, if used, will be removed in 5 to 10 days. Initial discomfort subsides daily and can be controlled with oral medication. Scars will usually fade within a few months.
When can I return to work and regular activities after facelift surgery? What restrictions will I have?
Some bruising and swelling may be present within the first week or so after facelift surgery. Most facelift patients choose to return to work after the initial healing is complete in 5 to 10 days and sutures are removed. Residual bruising can typically be hidden with cosmetics until bruising completely fades.
Is facelift plastic surgery typically covered by insurance?
The facelift procedure is unlikely to be covered by insurance.
